How To Play Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker is a popular casino table game spread at most live and online casinos Malaysia. If you’re not familiar with Pai Gow Poker, this is a great game to learn. In live games due to the time it takes to deal cards, set hands and then pay winners this game is rather slow paced. Add this to the fact it has a decent player rating for VIP scores and comps and you’ll see why it is popular live, especially in casinos offering free drinks. Online Pai Gow Poker can be a great way to clear bonuses, when allowed. A Pai Gow Poker deck is much like a standard 52 card deck, but also includes one joker. This joker can be used to complete a straight or a flush; otherwise it is considered an Ace. When sitting at a Pai Gow Poker table the first thing you’ll need to do is place a bet. Once the bet is placed, you each receive seven cards. The next step is to use these seven cards to make two different hands, a five card hand called the “high hand” and a two card hand called “the low hand”. When this is decided you’ll place the cards down separate on the table in the spots allocated for high hand which is 5 cards and low hand with 2 cards there. Once all players have set their hands the dealer’s cards are turned up and then set as a five card and two card hands according to predefined house rules, called “House Way”. If both your high hand and your low hand beat the dealers high and low hand you win the bet and are paid even money less a 5% commission. What occurs most often is that one of your hands will be better than the dealer, and one will be worse than the dealer. When this occurs the bet is a push. The important thing to remember is you only lose the bet when you lose both the low hand and the high hand, and you only win a bet when you win both the high hand and the low hand; in all other cases the bet is a push. In Pai Gow Poker you’re dealt seven cards and then need to split them into a five card and a two card poker hand. The five card hand uses traditional poker rankings  and Pai Gow Poker rules state that the five card hand must be ranked higher than the two card poker hand. One other important thing to mention is that in most Pai Gow Poker games A-2-3-4-5 is the second highest straight, as opposed to being the lowest straight. As you get more familiar with Pai Gow Poker setting your hands will be a breeze. In the beginning this can be challenging.
